Mark Twain Plaza is a downtown San Francisco spot near Sansome Street. Mark Twain was the pseudonym of Samuel Langhorne Clemens (1835-1910), an American writer born in Missouri most noted for his novels “Adventures of Huckleberry Finn” and “The Adventures of Tom Sawyer”. He was a master at rendering colloquial speech and helped to create and popularize a distinctive American literature built on American themes and language. He has been called the father of American literature.
