San Luis Potosí, also known as SLP or San Luis, is the capital of the state with the same name, located in central-north Mexico. The name of the city comes from Louis IX of France, with the addition of Potosí in reference to the silver and gold mines located in the area, that were the reason for founding the city in 1592. Today the city has an important manufacturing industry and the historic center is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, which also makes it a touristic destination.
