Pirates Alley ("L'Allée dès Pirates" in French) is a short slate-paved and gas-lit street running between Chartres and Royal. It dates to 1831 and its official name is Ruelle d'Orleans, Sud (“Orleans Walkway, South”). Here is the Faulkner House, built in 1840, where William Faulkner wrote in 1925 his first novel, “Soldiers Pay”.
