Possums are a marsupial species native to Australia, New Guinea, and Sulawesi. The name derives from their resemblance to the opossums of the Americas. They are herbivorous, feeding on fruits, leaves, and blossoms. Some species also eat insects and small vertebrates. Very active mainly at night. Most bear their young in tree hollows and unused birds’ nests. They are tree-dwelling animals.
