Obama is a Japanese town of ca 30,000 inhabitants located north of Kyoto in Honshu, Japan's biggest island. This sign in particular comes from Obama's railway station and it's written with Latin and Japanese characters, both through kanji signs (above = 小浜) and in explanatory kana signs (below = おばま), the syllabic Japanese script. Underneath (white names over blue background) you can read the previous and following stations on that railway line.
