“Richelieu Street”. Rue de Richelieu is a half a mile long street in downtown Paris, originating in the 1st arrondissement (district), in the south, and ending north, in the 2nd arrondissement. On this street lies the French National Library. In its intersection with Rue Molière there is a majestic fountain dedicated to Molière. The street takes its name from Richelieu (1585–1642), the French Cardinal, Duke, and politician who served as Louis XIII's chief minister, whose real name was Armand-Jean du Plessis. Richelieu was also famous for his patronage of the arts; most notably, he founded the Académie Française. He is also a leading character in “The Three Musketeers” by Alexandre Dumas, the old.
