Interstate 40 (I-40) is an east-west transcontinental Interstate highway in the United States running from California to North Carolina. The stretch of the route in New Mexico runs for 373.510 miles through Albuquerque. The highway, opened in 1957, crosses the counties of McKinley, Cibola, Bernalillo, Santa Fe, Torrance, Guadalupe, and Quay.
