“Rivoli Street”. Rue de Rivoli is one of the most renown streets in Paris. This 1,9 mile long and 22 yd broad commercial street houses some of the most fashionable shops in the world. On the north side it is almost entirely lined with arcades. Among other places it passes by the Louvre Museum, the Hôtel de Ville (Town Hall), the Tuileries Garden and the Opera Garnier. The present Rue de Rivoli was created in 1848 and extends through the 1st and 4th arrondissements (districts). It takes its name from the battle of Rivoli in Italy, Napoleon's 1797 victory against the Austrian army.
