Nerudova Street (Nerudova ulice) means Royal Way or Kings Road and is a picturesque and historic street linking Prague Castle to Charles Bridge, via the Lesser Town (Malá Strana). House numbers were introduced in Prague in 1770. In olden times, the buildings were recognized by house signs above the main door and Nerudova street has a vast collection of them. The street got its name after the famous 19th century Czech writer and journalist Jan Neruda who wrote many stories about this district in Prague. Nowadays, this steep street is dotted with restaurants, souvenir shops and embassies.
